I have type 1 diabetes! I was nine years old, and had no idea what “diabetes” meant. I thought it was as bad as the common cold. I didn’t understand why my mom was crying so hard. It did negatively impact me for a while. I was upset and angry about my health. When my blood sugar is low, I am shaky, dizzy, and confused. When it’s high, I feel uptight and sick all over. I don’t do injections anymore, I have an insulin pump and that is changed every 3 days. I’ve struggled with keeping my blood sugar in the correct range and checking it often. I do not have a limit to my food, because I am underweight, I eat as much (healthy) foods as I can, as long as I get insulin. I do eat unhealthy, I have always had a crazy sweet tooth. I try to limit how many sweets I have. The highest I have ever been is over 650, and the lowest was 32. It was scary both times. When I am low, I need to eat or drink something with lots of sugar. When I’m high, its just the opposite-as little carbs as possible. I was diagnosed at 9. Typically, my blood sugar is in the low to mid 200’s. I found out after doing to the Dr. after feeling sick for a long time. I was always thirsty and had to pee often. I had to mature quickly, and learn to become responsible at a young age. It was incredibly hard for my family at first, but day by day we have gotten through it. I would tell younger people to just take care of themselves. Don’t try to ignore your health because it will be there no matter what.
I typically exercise by riding horses and walking my dog. I think that this is a good workout plan, the exercises are great for keeping you in shape. Some adjustments I might make would include more detail about the exercises like how long to do them for. Certain people with diabetes are effected differently by exercise, so you need to account for high or low blood sugar spikes :) These exercises make me feel great! I feel refreshed and motivated. I would love to keep doing them. I would definitely recommend them to a friend.
